Claudio Landim (* 1965 ) is a Brazilian mathematician who deals with probability theory and its application in statistical physics.

Landim studied from 1982 at the Pontifical University in Rio de Janeiro and at the IMPA , where he received his master's degree in 1986. He received his doctorate in 1990 from the University of Paris VII under Claude Kipnis ( Comportement Hydrodynamique et Grandes Déviations de Processus à une infinité de Particules ). From the same year he worked for the CNRS . In 1996 he completed his habilitation at the University of Rouen . In 2002 he became director of research at the CNRS. From 1994 he was also associated with the IMPA and was a researcher at the IMPA from 2000. In 2008 he became deputy director of IMPA.

Among other things, he dealt with stochastic processes (fluctuations in Markov processes) and the hydrodynamic limit value and scaling limit value of interacting particle systems. He completed the monograph on scaling limits of interacting particle systems, which his teacher Kipnis had begun before it was completed, and which is considered a standard work.

In 1997 he received the bronze medal of the CNRS and in 2006 the mathematics prize of the Third World Academy of Sciences, of which he is a fellow. In 2000 he became a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences . In 2004 he was a Guggenheim Fellow. In 2010 he became the commander of the National Order of Merit for Science of Brazil.

From 1999 to 2006 he was Associate Editor of Stochastic Processes and their Applications, 2005 to 2012 and 2013 to 2015 of ALEA and 2002 to 2002 and 2013 to 2015 of the Journal of Statistical Physics.
