Claus Franzke

Claus Franzke (born January 23, 1925 in Berlin ; † January 6, 2017 ) was a German chemist ( food chemistry ).

Shortly after the end of the Second World War, Franzke began to study chemistry and food chemistry at the Technical University of Berlin, graduating in 1950. An internship in food analysis for Greater Berlin led him to food chemistry. At that time he was working on the chemistry of fats. In 1951 he became an assistant at Kurt Täufel's Institute of Food Chemistry and soon afterwards passed his state examination as a food chemist. He obtained his doctorate in 1950. Ing. And completed his habilitation in Berlin in 1960. From 1962 he was a full professor of food chemistry and from 1964 to 1985 director of the Institute for Food Chemistry at the Humboldt University in Berlin . After the fall of the Berlin Wall, he accompanied the integration of food chemistry from the Humboldt University into the TU Berlin.

Among other things, he dealt with dietary fats, the development of emulsifiers and special fats for industry and alcoholic beverages. He supervised over 200 diploma and doctoral students in Berlin.

In 1994 he received the Joseph König commemorative coin .
