Cleistocactus brookeae is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the plant collector from Bolivia Miss Winifred M. Brooke.

description

Cleistocactus brookeae grows as a shrub with few branched, upright to columnar shoots up to 50 centimeters long and 3 to 4.5 centimeters in diameter. There are 22 to 25  ribs . The areoles on it are close together. From them arise 25 to 40 grayish white or slightly yellowish, up to 1 centimeter long thorns , which cannot be differentiated into central and radial spines.

The red to orange flowers are up to 5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 8 millimeters. The flowers are bent upwards at right angles to the pericarpell and are flattened at the sides. Immediately above the pericarpell they are also somewhat sack-like. The mouth is crooked. The purple-colored fruits reach a diameter of 8 to 10 millimeters.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Cleistocactus brookeae is distributed in the Bolivian departments of Chuquisaca and Santa Cruz at altitudes of 800 to 1300 meters. It was first described in 1952 by Martín Cárdenas .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
