Cleistocactus paraguarensis is a species of plant in the genus Cleistocactus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet paraguarensis refers to the distribution area in Paraguay .

description

Cleistocactus paraguarensis grows shrubby with spread, green shoots with a diameter of 1 to 1.5 centimeters and forms low bushes. There are 10 to 11 notched ribs . The 4 to 5  central spines are reddish brown and up to 2.5 inches long. The 12 to 15 yellow to reddish yellow radial spines are 2 to 6 millimeters long.

The zygomorphic , orange-red flowers are bent into an S-shape and have a crooked mouth. They are up to 2 inches long. Your pericarpel and the tube of flowers are covered with a few scales with white hairs. The fruits are not described.

Distribution and systematics

Cleistocactus paraguarensis is widespread in Paraguay in the Paraguarí department . It was first described in 1979 by Friedrich Ritter . Cleistocactus paraguarensis is closely related to Cleistocactus baumannii .
