The Clemens Brentano primary school is a primary school in Berlin . It is located in the Lichterfelde district ( Steglitz-Zehlendorf district ) and includes grades 1–6. The school building is now a listed building .

history

In 1865, the entrepreneur acquired Johann Anton Wilhelm von Carstenn the located near Berlin Lichterfelde goods and Giesensdorf with the aim there is a villa colony ( lichterfelde west to leave) incurred for the upper middle class. The villages of Lichterfelde and Giesensdorf existed as a unified community from 1877 . Both in Lichterfelde and in Giesensdorf there were village schools which were in a poor structural condition. With the increased influx of wealthy residents, there was a great need for new schools. In 1894 a community school opened in Dürerstraße, in 1896 the 3rd community school in Kastanienstraße and the Realschule zu Groß-Lichterfelde (today: Lilienthal-Gymnasium ) in Ringstraße . In 1898 the construction of today's Clemens Brentano School (then: 4th community school) began. The design came from the architects Tietzen and Pahl. The building was completed in 1899 and 318 students moved into the new building. In 1914, 846 students in 19 classes attended the school. During the First World War , almost all male teachers committed themselves to military service. In December 1915 the school was closed and the buildings were used for military purposes. The premises of today's Clemens-Brentano School, the Schillergymnasium destroyed in World War II, today's Lilienthal-Gymnasium and two other schools were used as mass accommodation for returning soldiers towards the end of the war in 1918. As a result, lessons were severely restricted. The pupils of what was then the community school were taught at another school from December 1918 to February 1919. After that, school operations were resumed and the school was later renamed the 13th elementary school .

At the end of the Second World War, school operations were interrupted again, but could be resumed after the end of the war. The school building survived the war unscathed. At that time, due to a lack of teachers, students were taught in shifts.

In August 1968 the school was renamed the Clemens-Brentano-Elementary School. In the same year an extension was opened.

The school building was declared Monument of the Month for April 2019 by the Steglitz-Zehlendorf District Office .
