Clemens Mendonca

Clemens Mendonca (born December 29, 1949 in Mangalore , Karnataka , India ) is an Indian theologian and executive director of the Institute for the Study of Religion .

Life

Mendonca studied Catholic theology from 1976 to 1980 at St. Peter's Pontifical Institute of Theology in Bangalore (Bachelor in Theology). She then spent ten years in education and training in the Order of Sisters of St. Anne . From 1991 to 1993 she studied theology again at the Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Theology Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune ( Master of Theology ). Then Clemens Mendonca became an active member of the Ashirvad community there . The organization serves the process of reconciliation between people, cultures and religions in India and designs and supports programs and projects for this purpose.

From 1997 to 2001 she completed a postgraduate course in Catholic theology in the practical theology / religious education department at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. With her dissertation "Symbol and Interreligious Dialogue in Raimon Panikkar and their Relevance for Interreligious Education in India" she was awarded a doctorate in theology with highest distinction.

Clemens Mendonca has been Executive Director of the Institute for the Study of Religion since 1993 . In addition, she lectures in theological, religious education and catechetical programs of the Asian Bishops' Conference ( Federation of Asian Bishop's Conferences , FABC for short ). Since 2004 she has been advising FABC theologically on ecumenical and interreligious issues. In addition, the expert for educational, cultural and religious issues throughout Asia also performs diplomatic tasks from a church and educational policy perspective. One focus of her research and projects is the role and position of women in the Indian multicultural and multireligious context.

There is a cooperation agreement with the Department of Catholic Theology at the University of Frankfurt . So far, four interreligious conferences have taken place together with Frankfurt professors in Pune.
