Climax Entertainment was a Japanese multimedia manufacturer based in Shinjuku , Tokyo . The company was founded in April 1990 with start-up capital of 10 million yen (then approx. 106,500 DM ) and has since concentrated mainly on the production of console video games .
Getting started was made as part of the 16-bit - era with known Sega -classics like Shining Force , Landstalker and Shining Force II , each for the Sega Mega Drive appeared (or Genesis). With Dark Savior and Time Stalkers one later also created titles for advanced Sega consoles such as Saturn and Dreamcast . Other games appeared for various Nintendo systems , among others .
In 1994, several employees left the company and founded in collaboration with members of Telenet Japan the video game manufacturer Matrix Software , which among other things, for the Nintendo DS - port of Final Fantasy III was responsible.
Since 2007 they have mainly produced for Wii and Nintendo DS. In 2015 the company was closed due to financial difficulties.
