Dark Savior ( jap. ダークセイバー ) is a 3D - Action - RPG for the Sega Saturn , which by Climax Entertainment has developed and released (in Japan and North America, in Europe in 1997) In 1996.

It is considered by fans to be the “ghostly successor” to Landstalker , published in 1992 for Mega Drive (or Genesis ) , even though the storylines of the two games have hardly any parallels. Still, the games are often traded as a series because of their common developer and isometric graphics.

action

The game begins on board a large cargo ship that is on its way to Jailer's Island, a remote prisoner island, to unload the creature Bilan. The monster has previously been captured by a group of bounty hunters and is now set to be executed on the island. Garian, a member of the crew and the hero of the story, is also on the ship as he wants to witness the execution of Bilan in person. However, the monster manages to free itself from its cage and leave the ship. It leaves a trail of destruction and makes its own way to Jailer's Island. After Garian also arrives on the island, he discovers that the prisoners are apparently planning a revolt against the prison director Kurtiegen, who uses the prisoners to extract a strange substance from the mines. Garian gets entangled more and more deeply in a web of conflicts and tries to find out what the mysterious ninja lady Kay and the Blue Rose are all about.

Parallel system

Depending on how fast you make your way through the cargo ship at the beginning of the game, one of three different parallel stories is initiated. There are a total of five such parallel actions in Dark Savior , which are activated under the following conditions:

  • Parallel I - A Hunt for the Evil: Captain's cabin must be reached after 4:30 minutes.
  • Parallel II - A Hunt for the Heart: Captain's cabin must be reached between 3:30 and 4:30. Bilan must be defeated.
  • Parallel III - A Hunt for the Lies: Captain's cabin must be reached before 3:30 minutes.
  • Parallel IV - A Hunt for the Truth: Takes place after Parallel III.
  • Parallel V: See parallel II. The fight against Bilan must be lost.

The 5th parallel is a fighting tournament that can be contested in 2-player mode after you have won it single-handedly.
