CliniClowns
CliniClowns or clinic clowns are the names of associations that support the healing and recovery process of sick people through clown doctors .
history
The non-profit association CliniClowns-Austria was founded in September 1991 in the General Hospital of the City of Vienna (AKH Vienna) on the initiative of the cardiologist Suzanne Rödler as an association for the promotion and research of the care of sick people by clowns . The association took up the idea of hospital clowns , which originated in the USA , and was mainly driven by Patch Adams , and carried out the first clown visits in Europe in the children's dialysis ward . Former Mayor Helmut Zilk was the association's patron . The first CliniClown couple in Europe were the doctor Roman Szeliga and the actress Kathy Tanner.
tasks
Three full-time employees and the honorary board / medical advisory board manage the association's agendas. You take over
- the medical coordination and the selection of hospital departments
- the strategic planning and organization of clown missions
- the training and ongoing education of the clowns
- research
- sponsorship, fundraising
- the PR & Marketing
- the event organization.
The members of “CliniClowns-Austria” are visiting seriously ill children and adults in Vienna , Lower Austria , Upper Austria and Vorarlberg . The visit plan provides for recurring appearances by the “CliniClowns”, whereby various roles can be used to distract and delight the patient.
The "CliniClowns" are ideally included in the treatment plan by the attending physicians . This enables them
"Give the children the appropriate emotional support when they need it most."

The "CliniClowns" carry through its occurrence for friendliness and cheerfulness in when the patient is difficult to tolerate a situation.
The patients, especially the seriously ill children, show better medical prognoses after such events .
On November 14, 2001, “CliniClowns-Austria” was one of the first 44 organizations to receive the Austrian Donation Seal of Approval.
The concept of “CliniClowns” as “hospital clowns” has meanwhile been adopted in Germany , Belgium (since 1993), the Netherlands (since 1992) and Moscow as well as in France , Great Britain and Italy .
