Clodius Pompeianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clodius Pompeianus was a Roman politician and senator of the 3rd century AD.

Pompeianus is likely to be of Syrian origin, as he probably came from the family of Claudii Pompeiani from Antioch on the Orontes . It is possible that he was a descendant of Tiberius Claudius Pompeianus . In 241 Pompeianus was together with Emperor Gordian III. ordinary consul. In addition, a building inscription from 244 mentions Pompeianus as consularis aedium sacrarum (building curator of Rome).

A military diploma published in the Roman-Germanic Central Museum from 202 or 203 attests to a Lucius Clodius Pompeianus as a suffect consul, who could have been the father or grandfather of Pompeianus.
