The Clowes Glacier is a 3 km wide glacier on the Lassiter coast of the Palmerland on the Antarctic Peninsula . It flows east to Mason Inlet .
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered the glacier during an overflight in December 1940. Aerial photographs were taken in 1947 during the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948). In cooperation with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS), participants of the expedition carried out measurements on site. The FIDS named the glacier after the British oceanographer Archibald John Clowes (1900-1960), who was a member of the Discovery Investigations Committee from 1924 to 1946 .
