The Lassiter Coast is a stretch of coast in the east of the Antarctic Peninsula , which lies between Cape Mackintosh and Cape Adams in the eastern Palmerland on the Weddell Sea . The Black Coast joins in the north and the Orville Coast in the south .
The northern part was discovered during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) in 1940. In 1947, participants of the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) made aerial photographs of the entire extent of the coast and carried out surveys of the area in cooperation with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey . The expedition leader Finn Ronne named the coast after Captain James Walter Lassiter (1920-1992) of the United States Army Air Forces , who, as chief pilot, had a significant share in the expedition's air sampling program.
