The Orville Coast is a stretch of coastline west of the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf on the coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthland , which is located between Cape Adam and Cape Zumberge . The Zumberge coast connects to the south and the Lassiter coast to the north .
The coast was discovered during the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) under the direction of the US polar explorer Finn Ronne . This named it after Captain Howard Thomas Orville (1901-1960), head of the Naval Aerological Service , who was largely responsible for the development of the meteorological program of the expedition.
