The cape Zumberge is a steeply sloping rock kliff on the western edge of the Filchner-Ronne ice shelf , which is the end of the southwestern Orville Coast in Ellsworth Land marked.
After the identification of a putative nunatak at 78 ° 0 ′ S , 67 ° 50 ′ W by the US Research Group of the International Geophysical Year (1957-1958) at Ellsworth Station , studies by the United States Geological Survey between 1965 and 1967 showed that it could only be the chapter described here. It is named after the American glaciologist James Herbert Zumberge (1923-1992), who led several field research campaigns on the Ross Ice Shelf between 1957 and 1964 .
