Club Car is the largest manufacturer of small electric and gasoline-powered vehicles, especially for golf cart use , founded in the USA in 1958. The CEO is Mark Duford. Club Car has been part of the Ingersoll Rand group of companies since 1995 .

history

In 1958 the company "Landreath Machine" began production of the first golf car in Houston ( Texas ). This company was bought by Bill Stevens Sr. in 1962 and relocated to Augusta ( Georgia ), where it began to produce as a club car with initially few employees. That same year, Stevens, went accompanied by his son Bill Jr. to Florida for the PGA Show . 1970 came out a new model with the name "Caroche" (French "elegant car"); However, since this name was interpreted by some as a "cockroach", the company deleted it from the program. Together with designer Bob Beaumont, Club Car brought out around 50 prototypes for the first roadworthy vehicles, which were known as the “Vanguard Citi Car”. Beaumont then relocated production to Sebring in Florida in 1972 . In 1980 the owner changed and the designer Dom Saporito introduced a new model, an electric golf cart called the "DS". In 1985, the "Carryall II" was the first commercial vehicle that was not used to transport people.

In 2009, in the wake of the economic crisis, the company had to look for new sales opportunities. It began with servicing older vehicles and also marketed electric vehicles outside of golf, for example for use at universities.
