Club of the best
The club of the best was until 2005 an annual event honoring the most successful in Olympic disciplines German athletes of the year a second time and should appreciate.
The Club of the Best was organized for the first time in 1984. The idea came from Werner von Moltke , who died in 2019 , a former world-class decathlete whose Moltke Event GmbH organized the event. All athletes who won a medal at European and World Championships or the Olympic Games in the past year were invited. The athletes and their partners and families should relax for a week at the event with fun and games and get to know their fellow athletes better. In addition to the current sports greats, prominent old stars were invited. The event, which was free of charge for the invited guests, was held in autumn; up to 2004 in holiday resorts mainly the Robinson Club and in 2005 on the cruise ship Aida , after differences of opinion about the future direction of the event between the Robinson Club and Moltke Event GmbH arose. Thereupon von Moltke presented a new partner with the club ship Aida. It was criticized that the event could degenerate from an event to motivate and reward successful athletes to an advertising event for sponsors.
At the same time, Robinson Club GmbH organized a competing event with the same concept as the Champion of the Year , so that in 2005 the Club of the Best went on a week-long cruise on the Aida through the Aegean Sea , while the guests of the Champion of the Year spent a week in a holiday resort in Spent in southern Italy. There, the athletes present chose their champion of the year from among their number , who has so far been awarded by the Club of the Best since 2000. With this, critics saw a fight for the most effective sports stars.
From 2006 to 2014 the event champion of the year took place under the leadership of Robinson Club GmbH in various holiday resorts. The principle of the event remained the same, with the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation joining as a partner in 2006 .
Since 2015, the Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation has been organizing the holiday and event week for Germany's best athletes of the year together with its partners. From 2015 up to and including 2017 this took place under the title Champion of the Year in a Robinson Club . Starting in 2018, Deutsche Sporthilfe will be realizing the event together with the premium club provider Aldiana under the title “Sporthilfe Club der Beste”. This will take place in 2018 from September 23rd to 30th at the Aldiana Club Costa del Sol in Andalusia . In addition to Aldiana, Smart, the Zurich Insurance Group and the German Football League (DFL) will accompany the event as top partners .
