National players club

The club of national players is an unregistered association of former and active players of the German national soccer teams . Members are also A-national players of the GDR - as well as the Saarland selection. The GDR was an official FIFA member until 1990 and Saarland in the 1950s .

The club was founded on the initiative of the DFB General Secretary Wolfgang Niersbach on April 5, 2008 , on the day of the 100th anniversary of the German national team. The club had 450 members in October 2008. The first club chairman is the honorary captain Uwe Seeler . The administrative business is handled by the DFB office.

The first meeting on October 11, 2008 in Dortmund was held by Uwe Seeler on the occasion of the World Cup qualifier between Germany and Russia . Around 250 members had agreed to attend, including senior citizens Matthias Mauritz (83 years old, BRD selection), Willi Sippel (79 years old, Saarland selection) and Rainer Baumann (78 years old, GDR selection); but also z. B. Gerd Müller , Joachim Streich , Jürgen Sparwasser , Thomas Berthold and Guido Buchwald .

In March 2018, Lothar Matthäus became chairman, Uwe Seeler honorary chairman.
