Pavo Gagulić

Pavo Gagulić (born September 23, 1974 in Gradačac ) is a Croatian politician.

Political activity in Germany

From 1986 to 1995 Gagulić lived in Munich, where he finished school. In 1990 he became a member of the Croatian Democratic Union (Croatian Hrvatska demokratska zajednica , abbreviation: HDZ).

From 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the Croatian Young Union in Munich, the foreign branch of the HDZ youth organization (Croatian: Mladež Hrvatske demokratske zajednice , abbreviation: MHDZ), from 1991 to 1994 its Bavarian MHDZ regional chairman, 1994 to 1996 MHDZ federal chairman and chairman the European coordination of youth of the Croatian Democratic Union, which included the European foreign associations in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain and Sweden. Gagulić contributed significantly to the establishment of MHDZ local associations in Bavaria and established political contacts with the Junge Union Bayern and the CSU in Munich. From 1993 to 1995 he was deputy HDZ regional chairman of Bavaria.

Youth functionary in Croatia

In July 1994 he was elected to the Presidium at the 2nd youth convention of the Croatian MHDZ in Osijek as a representative of the Croatians abroad. In 1995 he returned to Croatia and became Deputy Secretary General . At the 3rd Youth Convention in Split in July 1996 , he was appointed General Secretary. Gagulić worked on the first draft of the law for the Croatian student council (Hrvatski studentski zbor), which came into force in 1996. As the campaign leader of the MHDZ student organization, the Croatian Academic Community (Hrvatska akademska zajednica), he was able to win a majority in the Croatian student council in 1997. In 1997, at the age of 23, he was co-opted as the youngest member of the HDZ Presidium under President Franjo Tuđman .

He was twice a member of the Zagreb City Council, 1997 to 2000 and 2001 to 2005. In his first mandate he was chairman of the sub-committee for youth and family issues .

Zagreb opposition leader

In 2000 Gagulić was appointed as the new Zagreb HDZ managing director and headed the city party's election campaigns for the district elections in December 2000 and the city council elections in 2001. In April 2002 he was elected city party chairman and thus the opposition leader to the incumbent Zagreb mayor Milan Bandić . Gagulić was expelled from the party and city council faction in December 2002 because of criticism of the “cleansing policy” of the re-elected party chairman Ivo Sanader in a battle vote , the Zagreb city organization and seven of 17 district associations were dissolved for support. Jadranka Kosor was appointed as the new acting chairman . Gagulić was then an independent city councilor until 2005.
