Coats Memorial Church

The Coats Memorial Church is a Baptist church building in the Scottish town of Paisley in the Renfrewshire council area . In 1971 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A. The church is still in use as such. It was built in memory of the textile industrialist and philanthropist Thomas Coats .

The neo-Gothic building is on High Street west of the city center and not far from the Paisley Museum . It was built in 1894 to a design by the Scottish architect Hippolyte Blanc . It consists of a nave with a transept and a crossing tower . A wide staircase leads to the entrance portal on the south side. There are three gable surfaces with ornate tympana . Above is a tracery consisting of three lancet windows , which is flanked by towers with an octagonal floor plan and a tent roof . Five vertical axes run along the nave on which the windows are arranged. In the upper storey tracery from four lancet windows can be found; twin lancet windows are arranged on the aisle. The design of the gable surfaces of the transept is aligned with the front. The rectangular apse has three lancet windows. The building closes with a slate roof .
