The shuttle - steel roller coaster Cobra is located in the Swiss amusement park Conny-Land in the district Lipperswil of the municipality Wäldi in the canton Thurgau . It opened on July 28, 2010.
Cobra is the highest and fastest roller coaster in Switzerland and the largest linear roller coaster in Europe. In addition, it is so far (as of December 2019) the only delivery of the model.
Cobra has a route length of 215 m. This is equipped with a looping and two camel's humps . The starting point is at a height of 42 m. The train reaches a top speed of 85 km / h.
construction
Construction of the Cobra roller coaster began at the end of 2006. The ropeway was planned to go into operation for the 2007 season. First of all, the foundations for the supports were created. The train station followed with the waiting area. Due to delivery problems at the Russian manufacturer Pax Design, further construction was delayed. The first supports and rail parts were only delivered in 2009. As a result, the railway was only able to go into operation on July 28, 2010 with a large inauguration party, with a delay of over 3 years.
Even after a short period of continuous operation, the wagons showed rough running behavior. At the beginning of August, operations were stopped for 14 days. The cause was quickly found. Various bolts showed signs of wear. A regional entrepreneur made the necessary bolts in higher quality material.
After the end of the 2010 season, the rails were dismantled again, refined and reassembled before the start of the 2011 season. This work also served to improve driving comfort.
journey
With the help of a reverse lift , the train is pulled from the horizontal station into its vertical starting position. It is notched at 36 m. In free fall, the train accelerates to its top speed and thunders through the station and onto the track at 85 km / h. After overcoming the two camel humps, the looping is done. The speed achieved in this way is sufficient to bring the train back to a height of 36 m. But now the passengers are hanging upside down. After a short stop, the journey goes backwards through the loop and the route back to the station.
