Lipperswil is a former municipality of the then municipal municipality of Wäldi and a village in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland .

On January 1, 1995, the local community Lipperswil merged with the local communities Engwilen , Sonterswil and Wäldi as part of the Thurgau community reorganization to form the political community Wängi.

geography

Lipperswil is located on the southern slope of the Seerücken and north of the Autobahn 7 . In addition to Lipperswil, the local community also includes the villages of Hattenhausen (72 inhabitants in 2018) and Hefenhausen (92 inhabitants). Hefenhausen has a post office, a bank and the Wäldi municipal administration.

history

Parish before the merger in 1995

The settlement was first mentioned in 1252 as Luimprechtswilær . Lipperswil belonged to the barons of Bürglen until it was sold to the canons of St. Johann in Constance in 1284 . The canons owned the lower court until 1798. Hattenhausen and Hefenhausen formed a court that the castle owners von Salenstein and Hard alternately administered until 1798. From 1803 to 1805 Lipperswil belonged to the municipal community of Müllheim , then until 1994 to the municipal community of Wäldi. In 1812 the local parishes of Hattenhausen-Hefenhausen and Lipperswil were combined to form the local parish of Lipperswil.

The church was built in 1209 as a branch of Wigoltingen . Lipperswil joined the Reformation in 1529 . The Lipperswil church went down in history with the Wigoltinger trade in 1664. In addition to Raperswilen , the pastor of Lipperswil looked after Wäldi after 1723 and also Sonterswil from 1895.

In the 19th century, fruit growing, livestock and dairy farming replaced agriculture; Viticulture continued into the 20th century. The mill, which is documented in 1301, burned down in 1895. In the 19th century a weaving mill and a cobbler's shop, then around 1900 an embroidery, a sawmill and a cheese factory offered employment. Today the Conny-Land amusement park run by the Gasser circus family and the golf course, which opened in 1999, characterize the town.
