Langrickenbach is a municipality and a village in the Kreuzlingen district of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland .

The political municipality formed in 1998 consists of the municipality of Langrickenbach, which existed from 1803 to 1997, with the former municipalities of Dünnershaus , Herrenhof , Langrickenbach and Zuben and the municipality of Schönenbaumgarten , which was previously part of the municipality of Illighausen .

geography

Langrickenbach is located on the eastern foothills of the Seerücken, a short distance from Lake Constance at the intersection of Sulgen - Altnau and Amriswil - Konstanz . In addition to the village of Langrickenbach, the hamlets of Belzstadel and Unter-Greut belong to the local community of Langrickenbach.

The neighboring communities of Langrickenbach are Münsterlingen in the north, Altnau in the east, Güttingen in the south-east, Sommeri in the south-south-east, Erlen in the south, Birwinken in the west and Lengwil in the north-west .

history

Langrickenbach is first mentioned in a document in 889 as Rihchinbahc . Probably the oldest settlement in today's municipality is in the district of Dünnershaus and is called Lenzwil and has been documented in writing since 838.

Langrickenbach came with Greut in 1351 to the Lords of Helmsdorf . From 1521 to 1798 it belonged to the cathedral chapter of Konstanz . Against lower-court rulings had the Hofgericht in Konstanz appeals are. Belzstadel belonged to the majority of Münsterlingen until 1798 . A church was first mentioned around 900. The Catholics of Langrickenbach have been visiting the Altnau church since the Reformation in 1529.

In Langrickenbach arable and fruit growing, cattle breeding and dairy farming as well as general goods, timber and cattle trading are carried out. In 1862 a so-called Musmüller is mentioned. Calico weaving is documented in 1835, there was embroidery from around 1880 to 1913. Langrickenbach owns a modern dairy, first mentioned around 1900.

The coat of arms of Langrickenbach adopts the coat of arms of the Konstanz cathedral monastery in swapped colors and also shows two crowns as a sign that Emperor Barbarossa confirmed that the Langrickenbach church belonged to the Konstanz cathedral monastery as early as 1155. The local community used the coat of arms from 1955, the political community since it was formed in 1998.

Of the total of 1295 inhabitants in the Langrickenbach community in 2018, 226 or 17.5% were foreign nationals. 597 (46.1%) were Protestant Reformed and 294 (22.7%) were Roman Catholic. The village of Langrickenbach had 587 residents at that time.

economy

The new political municipality Langrickenbach is structurally weak. In 2000, just under two fifths of the workforce were still working in the first economic sector . In 2016, Langrickenbach offered work for 233 people (converted to full-time positions). Of these, 47.0% worked in agriculture and forestry, 18.7% in industry, trade and construction, and 34.3% in the service sector.
