Raperswilen is a municipality and a town in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland . It belongs to the Kreuzlingen district . Until 2002 Raperswilen was a unified municipality .

geography

Raperswilen is located on the Seerücken near the Untersee . In addition to the village of Raperswilen, the political community includes the hamlets of Müllberg, Fischbach, Büren and Helsighausen. In Helsighausen there is a mica sand pit of the same name , an artificial geotope of national importance as it provides information about the geology and history of the region.

Raperswilen has an area of ​​7.67 km². 5.18 km² or 67.5% of this is used for agriculture, another 2.1 km² or 27.4% is forest area. The remaining 5.1% are built over.

history

In 1766 the small Raperswilen church was built in place of the old chapel.

The prehistoric fortifications Risi from the Bronze Age and Schanz, probably from the Iron Age, are located in the area of ​​the municipality . The first documentary mention of Raperswilen dates from 1213 as Ratbrechtswilare .

Büren and Müllberg belonged to the Klingenberg court , part of Fischbach, Helsighausen and Raperswilen to the Fruthwilen court , four houses in Fischbach to the Hattenhausen court and a further six houses were directly subordinate to the federal bailiff in Thurgau . The joint opening of Raperswilen and Helsighausen dates from 1616. From 1803 to 2010 Raperswilen belonged to the Steckborn district .

Around 1560 the Reformed received the Raperswilen chapel belonging to Homburg and profaned in 1529 , in which the pastor of Wigoltingen preached from 1562 , alternating with the pastor of Lipperswil from 1661 to 1798 . The Raperswilen church, built in 1766, is still part of Wigoltingen today.

The English nobleman George Treherne built the Müllberg Castle from 1854 to 1866, which housed a climatic spa from 1905 and which burned down in 1914. The community was characterized by fruit and arable farming, and later by cattle, dairy and forestry. Raperswilen owns wood processing companies, a little car trade and a mica sand pit. A good half of those in employment in 2000 worked abroad. The first economic sector in 2005 provided around 43% of jobs in the municipality.

Of the total of 414 inhabitants in the municipality of Raperswilen in 2018, 43 or 10.4% were foreign nationals. 233 (56.3%) were Protestant Reformed and 66 (15.9%) were Roman Catholic.

economy

In 2016 Raperswilen employed 118 people (converted to full-time positions). Of these, 40.0% were employed in agriculture and forestry, 33.1% in industry, trade and construction and 26.9% in the service sector.

education

The village belongs to the Wigoltingen elementary school community . In the village itself there is a primary school, which is attended by students from the community and the Wigoltingen hamlet of Illhart. Up until a few years ago, children from Raperswil attended the kindergarten in Illhart, now it is located in the schoolhouse in Sonterswil , which is also part of the elementary school community. The upper level is in Wigoltingen. There are also further educational offers in Frauenfeld , Weinfelden , Kreuzlingen etc.
