The official course book (to 1981 Official course book ) is based on Art. 10 of Regulation timetable that on behalf of the Federal Office of Transport at Stämpfli AG published timetable Switzerland. The course book has been published online since 2005/06 on a website made available for this purpose ( fahrplanfelder.ch ), and it was also published as a printed edition until 2016/17. From 2018, since the printed official course book was discontinued , the passenger associations VCS, Pro Bahn Schweiz and IGöV have published the previous first volume (railways, cable cars, ships) in printed form, while the bus course book is no longer available as a complete printed edition.

The legal basis for the publication of the official course book is Art. 9 and 10 Timetable Ordinance. The official timetable is therefore the official directory of timetables for Switzerland and a specific period . The schedules of the Kursbuch railway lines contained shipping lines, cableways and bus lines are each as PDF individually in tabular illustrated shape. Each route receives a number with which each railway or bus route can be easily found, for example timetable field 600 for the Gotthard Railway in Switzerland.

history

Course books

The first Swiss course book was published in 1905 as a result of a collaboration between the Stämpfli printing company from Bern, the Oberpostdirektion and the SBB .

In addition to the railway lines, the Swiss course books also contain bus, cable car and ship routes. Until the winter timetable 1981/82 it was called the official timetable and appeared twice a year in one volume each as a summer and winter timetable. It was divided into five areas with colored paper:

  • green: information, tariffs, directory
  • red: international train timetables (fields B to Z2)
  • white: Railway lines (fields 1 to 130c), cable cars (fields 131 to 324) as well as tram and trolleybus lines , unless they could be clearly assigned to inner-city traffic
  • blue: ship lines (fields 351 to 379)
  • yellow: bus routes, including inner-city traffic, and horse-drawn carriages, arranged according to postal districts (fields 401 to 848d)

Since the introduction of the regular timetable in the summer of 1982, it has been known as the official timetable . Since the introduction of the annual timetable on May 31, 1987, it has been published in two parts: the blue, approx. 1300 page thick volume contained the railway, mountain railway and ship lines. The second, yellow volume comprised around 2500 pages and contained the bus timetables. With the expansion of the range, but also with the differentiation of the offers between working days and weekends, the scope increased and reached the limit of what the bookbindery could still process. In 1996 the circulation was 260,000 copies. In December 2005, the yellow volume was therefore published in A4 format , which made it possible to print two pages per sheet. The larger format was partially criticized and caused new logistical problems. For this reason, the bus course book was divided into two volumes in DIN A5 format for the 2008 timetable year , meaning that the course book has been in three parts since December 9, 2007. Since December 2005, the entire content of the course book has also been available in PDF format on the Internet. The list of the current timetable fields can be requested and downloaded from the official homepage.

As an alternative and competition to the timetable, the electronic timetable information Finajour could be purchased from 1989 , which contained all rail connections. Later, the SBB sold timetable disks and then up to and including the 2010 timetable for the same price as the course book CDs based on the HAFAS software . However, these data carriers did not contain the entire range of public transport in Switzerland. In particular, there was a lack of special offers (on-call buses, cable cars) and all local transport. However, this is included in the online version of SBB, TPG and ZVV. The ZVV continued to offer the offline solution for download until 2013/14. In addition to the content of the printed course book, it also contains the travel times of various lines, which are only listed in the course book.

The official course book has been available on the Internet since 2005/2006. Each timetable field receives its own PDF. The public transport companies have decided not to publish the full printed version of the course book from 2018. This is because the proceeds from the sale of the printed edition of 25,000 copies no longer covered the printing costs. Thus, within 12 years, the circulation had decreased by almost 100,000 copies.

After various cantons or regions published their own, sometimes extensive, timetable books for their own regions, the passenger associations Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz (VCS), Pro Bahn Schweiz and IGöV decided to print an edition due to the discontinuation of the printed official timetable covers the entire official timetable with the exception of the bus routes. It is sold at selected SBB train stations.

Numbering since 1982

The lines of transport are listed in numbered timetable fields. The Basel – Frick – Zurich line ( Bözberg line ) has the 700 schedule field . The cable cars and ships have 2000 and 3000 numbers, with the hundreds digits roughly following the railway lines, e.g. For example, the Polybahn in Zurich can be found under the number 2700 and the Zürichseeschifffahrt under 3730. The course book field numbers of the buses are based on regions, the numbering of which also roughly follows the railway lines. for example 70,530 for line 530.
