Finajour was a software for timetable information (electronic course book ) developed by Hans-Jakob Tobler for the company of the same name in Therwil , Switzerland, and is considered one of the first electronic timetable software for home users.

Tobler developed an electronic course book for MS-DOS for the summer 1989 timetable. It contained the timetable data of the SBB and the Swiss private railways. It required a PC with 512 KB of RAM. By autumn 1989, a good 1,000 licenses of the software had been sold at a price of one hundred francs per license. Finajour was then implemented in cooperation with the PTT on the Swiss video text , the Videotex , and released in 1990.

Finajour appeared every year for the timetable change for MS-DOS and later Windows-based systems.

The Terrasoft company ported Finajour for Macintosh around 1993 with the help of Tobler .

In 1994/1995 the postbus and bus routes were added.

Version 7.0 of 1995/1996 describes the scope of Finajour as follows: «The present computer timetable works with 57,598 train, rail and boat courses, of which over 30,000 operate daily. [...] It contains 8077 destinations, including around 1800 train stations, 400 boat stations and almost 6000 bus stops. »

Finajour and Finaroute included the Swisscom directory CD , manufactured by OptoByte.

The SBB began to sell their own electronic course book. Based on the HAFAS software , they sold the Swiss electronic course book for MS-DOS and Windows and gradually pushed Finajour out of the market. A combined version of Finajour and Finaroute was sold as FinaPlus in 2002/2003 , it should be the last version. The Macintosh version continued to be developed and sold independently, as HaCon, the manufacturer of HAFAS, which dominates the European market, and SBB did not offer a Macintosh version of the electronic course book. Finajour for Mac has been discontinued for the 2009/2010 timetable change.

Finaroute was another software from Finajour and one of the first electronic route planners for Switzerland. The software was introduced in 1991 and offered a place-to-place connection for all of Switzerland. It required MS-DOS 3.0 and 512 KB of RAM. It has now also been discontinued.

The developer Hans-Jakob Tobler died in 2009 at the age of 73.
