Vegetative characteristics
Cochleanthes flabelliformis is a perennial herbaceous plant . It grows epiphytically or lithophytically in the shade with high humidity. Basally overlapping, linear-lanceolate and green leaves are formed.
Generative characteristics
The flower stalk is up to 10 centimeters long and has a single, short-lived and waxy flower.
distribution
Cochleanthes flabelliformis is distributed in Jamaica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Colombia and Brazil in undisturbed mountain forests at altitudes of 250 to 1200 meters.
Systematics
It was first published in 1788 under the name ( Basionym ) Epidendrum flabelliforme by Olof Peter Swartz . In 1959 it was recombined to Cochleanthes flabelliformis (Sw.) RESchult. & Garay by Richard Evans Schultes and Leslie Andrew Garay . Other synonyms for Cochleanthes flabelliformis (Sw.) RESchult. & Garay are: Chondrorhyncha flabelliformis (Sw.)
