from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Codex Chisianus R.VII.45 (No. 88 according to Rahlfs ) is a parchment manuscript in Greek from the 10th century. It contains the biblical books Jeremiah (with Baruch , the Lamentations and the Letter of Jeremiah ), Daniel (with Susanna, Bel and the dragon in the Septuagint version, plus the commentary on Daniel by Hippolytus of Rome ) in the usual version based on Theodotion , Ezekiel and Isaiah . The codex consists of 402 sheets of 32 cm × 24 cm, which are described in two columns with 27–28 lines in minuscules .

That of fol. 135a of the attested text in the book of Daniel reproduces the Hexapla version of Origen . This text is also preserved in a Syrian translation in Codex Ambrosianus 313 . Along with the older pre-Hexaplarian papyrus 967, both are among the only text witnesses who reproduce the original Septuagint , which was superseded in the other manuscripts by the later version of the Theodotion .

The manuscript was first published in 1772. It was in the Biblioteca Chigiana in Rome . Since 1923 it has been in the possession of the Vatican Library with the shelf mark Chigi R. VII 45.

The Chisian codex 88 and the Syro-Hexaplar (Syh) version are post-Hexaplaric and reflect very similar texts, while the more fragmentary Papyrus 967 is the only pre-Hexaplaric witness to the OG version of Daniel.
