Coenonympha fettigii is a butterfly ( butterfly ) from the family of Nymphalidae (Nymphalidae), which occurs in northwest Africa.

description

Coenonympha fettigii looks almost like C. dorus spp on the upper side . austauti , only the male has more distinct red-yellow streaks under the apical eye . This large black eye spot (ocelle) has a white core with a lively orange border. Below the hind wings are whole in the male, in the female almost completely without drawing, dusty gray; in the latter there are mostly only traces of ocelles in the form of tiny ringlets and a weak beginning to a discal band.

In Algeria and Tunisia, the form nicholasi Rothschild occurs. In the males the orange post-disk region is wider and in the females the brown marginal strip is narrower.

The form inframaculata Oberthür from western Morocco is particularly variable in the Rif Atlas.

Coenonympha fettigii occurs in Algeria, Tunisia and in the Middle , High and Rif Atlas in Morocco from 800 to 2200 meters altitude.

Way of life

The moths like to sit on oak bushes. Nothing is known about the way of life of the caterpillars.

Flight time

Coenonympha fettigii flies in one generation per year (univotile) from mid-June to late August.

Systematics

Coenonympha fettigii is considered by some authors to be a subspecies of Coenonympha dorus .
