definition
Coffeatea is a tea-like infusion drink or herbal tea . This is an aromatic drink that is made from dried or roasted leaves of the coffee plant and poured boiling water over it. The resulting amber-colored liquid has a slightly similar taste to that of green tea , but contains less caffeine than coffee or bitter substances than black and green tea. Coffeatea generally belongs to the mono-herbal tea varieties, as it is made from the leaves and parts of only one non-tea plant.
Origin and history
Coffeatea is found mainly in the south of Sudan , Ethiopia and Sumatra . In Ethiopia in particular, coffeatea has an older tradition than the infusion from the roasted and ground kernels of the coffee fruit . Coffeatea has been a daily enjoyment here for over 1300 years.
Legend has it that monks were the first to make an infusion from the leaves of the coffee plant after shepherds complained to them that some of their goats that had been eating an evergreen plant simply did not want to get tired. The monks discovered the invigorating effect of the coffeatea, through which they could extend their prayers into the night.
In the 19th century , British scholars in particular discovered the drink as an alternative to tea or coffee. They also reported that consuming Coffeatea almost instantly "sates hunger and drives away tiredness ".
health
Recent studies by English and French scientists show that the infusion from the leaves of the coffee plant contains not only large amounts of antioxidants but also a substance called mangiferine (quinonine). According to these studies, this substance not only has a cell-protective effect, but also has an anti-inflammatory effect, protects nerve cells, is anti- diabetic and has a positive effect on the cholesterol level .
