Cofundos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cofundos (short for "collaborately fund Open Source" or "jointly finance open source software") was a project to promote free and open source software . The online portal Cofundos.org offered the opportunity to publicly advertise ideas and wishes for free software and to submit money bids. The projects posted at Cofundos had to comply with the open source definition . An interested programmer was selected by the group, implemented the software, and once the users were satisfied, the money was transferred to the developer. Those who advertised more money got a greater vote in the choice of developers and whether the implementation is satisfactory. All contributions on the homepage were under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Germany license.

The portal was created by Dr. Sören Auer, an employee in the corporate information systems department at the Institute for Computer Science at the University of Leipzig , was founded because there were numerous websites for fundraising for nonprofit companies, but none were adapted to the special needs of free software development. Since it was developed as a project within the Agile Knowledge Engineering and Semantic Web working group , the content is equipped with semantic web technologies such as Atom , JSON feeds or RDF export. The portal was supported by the Softwiki research project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Vienna International Association of Online Engineering (IAOE).
