Cohiba (brand of cigarettes)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cohiba is a brand of cigarettes. It was created in 1987 as a joint product of Habanos SA and Cita Tabacos de Canarias, SL. As with the Cohiba cigars of the same name , the tobacco of these cigarettes comes from the Vuelta Abajo, the region of Cuba , which is known for its excellent tobacco quality due to its special location and soil conditions. Accordingly, a burning Cohiba cigarette smells more like a cigar than typical cigarette smoke.

As with the cigars of the same name, the packaging is divided into two parts: black and white checked pattern and plain orange, each with the golden letters COHIBA and CIGARILLOS NEGROS . The word Cohiba comes from the language of the Taino Indians and describes a wrap made of tobacco leaves. The Cohiba logo is the head of Taino chief Hatuey , who is considered Cuba's first revolutionary. In Cuba's recent history under Castro, when the Cohiba brand was born, Hatuey was a welcome motif. The cigarettes themselves are completely white and have two circumferential lines to visually delimit the filter as well as Hatuey's head, both again in golden color.

The design of the packaging was changed slightly in 2006: size of the black and white pattern, font size, golden line around the lettering COHIBA and between the orange and black and white area. The design of the cigarette and its print have been retained.

The current design (as of Aug. 2013) again shows detailed changes: the surrounding golden line between the orange and black and white areas has been removed, the lettering Cigarillos Negros has been reduced so that it corresponds roughly to the height of the white squares. Approx. 70% of the back is printed with a black and white warning notice.

Tobacco values

The cigarette formerly marketed in Cuba had the values 12 mg tar, 0.7 mg nicotine and 12 mg CO, making the cigarillos Negros one of the stronger cigarettes. The goods that were being sold in Germany at the same time had lower values in comparison with 10 mg tar , 0.6 mg nicotine and 10 mg carbon monoxide . In Germany, this brand is no longer available in stores, the goods currently available in Cuba (as of Aug. 2013) with 10 mg tar , 0.7 mg nicotine and 10 mg carbon monoxide have almost the same values as the goods last sold in Germany.

Others

This cigarette was for the character Sebastian Rook in the feature film Cypher - together with his preference for single malt scotch - the common thread that helped him to find his true identity again.
