Colón is a town in Uruguay .
geography
It is located in the eastern part of the Lavalleja Department in its 8th sector about 13 kilometers south of Pirarajá and about 17 kilometers north of Mariscala . The Arroyo Laureles, a tributary to the right of the Río Cebollatí, which runs a few kilometers north of Colón, flows through the village . The area to the west and south of the settlement is called Sierra de la Lorencita , while the Sierra del Aguila is located in the southeast , behind which the Cuchilla del Águila extends further south . In the immediate vicinity of the place are the topographic elevations Cerro Romerito , Cerro de la Chiva , Cerro Galeano , Cerro de la Lorencita and Cerro Buena Vista .
history
The village was founded on the land and on the initiative of Eustaquio Amilivia . On October 15, 1963, Colón was granted pueblo status by Law No. 13.163 .
