Pirarajá is a town in Uruguay .

geography

It is located in the northern part of the Lavalleja department in its 9th sector . The village of Poblado Aramendía is located about 15 kilometers northeast . In the immediate vicinity of Pirarajá, the Arroyo Pirarajá flows in the north and east to its mouth in the Río Cebollatí, a few kilometers south of the settlement . The area to the west of the village is known as the Cuchilla de los Correa . There are the Cerro Feo and the Cerro del Diamante to the northwest of Pirarajá .

history

Pirarajá was founded in December 1895 by Luis Caselli and Diego Alfonsín . Originally the place was called Santa María . In 1906, however, a change in name to the current name took place. Pirarajá is a word from the Guaraní . On December 22nd, 1906, Pirarajá was declared a pueblo by Ley 3.136 .

Infrastructure

At Montevideo Pirarajá is on the line passing through the place Ruta 8 is connected, which has its kilometer point 217 here. The main industries of the place are livestock and forestry.
