Cold Lake is the third studio album by the Swiss metal band Celtic Frost . It was released in 1988 under the Noise Records label and belongs to the heavy metal and glam metal genres.

Emergence

After the live tour "One in Their Pride" for Celtic Frost did not end as hoped, Tom Warrior decided to break up the band. From then on he only wanted to appear as a producer . He did this very soon, in connection with Oliver Amberg and his wife, who at that time wanted to bring out an album that Tom Warrior was supposed to produce. In many conversations Tom Warrior and Oliver Amberg got closer and closer, and ultimately Amberg persuaded Warrior to reactivate Celtic Frost with him as guitarist. The rest of the band members were soon found, above all it should be mentioned here that the same drummer played with Steven Priestley who was also to be heard on "Morbid Tales".

Although the project was supported by Tom Warrior, he cared little for it and allowed Amberg to do most of the musical composition.

Versions

In addition to the standard versions as LP and CD , the album was also sold as an MC.

reception

Holger Stratmann said for the music magazine Rock Hard : "Admittedly, it is certainly not bad what the new Celtic Frost team has put together. But similar to" Into The Pandemonium ", it will be interesting to see how the fans like the record will record [...] Certainly ALL songs by Cold Lake are heavier than most of the material from the controversial predecessor, but Celtic Frost have lost their profile and originality [...]

" Celtic Frost slipped drastically in 1988 with Cold Lake : The hellishly powerful Swiss demons of 1985 turned into glam metal imitators that made you stomach ache. First-class cover design was replaced by hairspray and publicly presented pubic hair, while the classic literary subjects became mundane Love songs to Marilyn Monroe congealed. "
