Ian Christe

Ian Christe (* 1970 in Biel / Bienne , Switzerland ) is an English-speaking music journalist , author of non-fiction books on heavy metal and publisher .

Life

Christe was born in Switzerland in 1970. In 1973 he moved with his family to the US state of Ohio , his parents divorced a little later. Christe grew up with his mother who worked in the government. For this reason he moved every two to three years, including to Germany in 1980 . At the age of 13 he lived in Seneca Falls , where he made his first own radio show for two years on the college radio WEOS. After Christe moved to Indiana , he found that there were no radio stations in that state that played heavy metal , nor did bands of the genre perform. So in 1985 Christe started tape trading and founded a fanzine called Ians Magazine . After graduating from college in 1992, he began making a living as a journalist for technology magazine Wired . As a metal fan, he also began to write articles for magazines such as Spin , Revolver , CMJ and Metal Maniacs . At the end of the 1990s he decided to write a history of heavy metal. He was supported by well-known musicians of the scene such as Jeff Becerra (ex- Possessed ). The book was published in 2003 under the original title Sound of the Beast. The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal . In 2007 Christe founded the publishing house Bazillion Points Publishing, which specializes in non-fiction books and biographies in the field of metal.

In addition to his work as a writer, Christe plays in various bands. With Grouse Mountain Skyride he released a self-titled EP in 1993 , with the song Smokin 'Husks by his band Dark Noerd he was featured on the soundtrack for the film Gummo in 1997 . The electronics project Wi77! N6, run jointly with ambient musician Fritz Welch, released its debut album in 2007.
