Coliath Castle or la Colée ( Arabic قلعة القليعات, DMG Qalʿat al-Qulaiʿāt ) is the ruin of a crusader castle near Qlaiaat in Lebanon .

history

The small castle is located on one level and about 2 km from the coast. It belonged to the County of Tripoli and secured the road between Tartus and Tripoli , together with the Arqa Castle, about 5 km further south .

The castle is first mentioned in 1127 when Count Pons of Tripoli bequeathed the castle to the Hospitaller Order. The Ayyubid Sultan al-Adil conquered the castle in 1207 and had it razed . Recovered and restored by the Crusaders, it was taken in the summer of 1266 by the Mamluk Sultan Baibars , who had the castle finally destroyed in preparation for the conquest of Tripoli.

The castle had a square foundation wall with square towers protruding from it and large vaulted halls on the inside.
