Colin Bushnell
Colin John Bushnell (* 1947 ) is a British mathematician who specializes in number theory and representation theory.
Bushnell studied mathematics from 1965 at King's College London (KCL), where he received his doctorate in 1972 under Albrecht Fröhlich , was a member of the faculty from 1974 and was given a full professorship in 1990 . In 1996/97 he headed the mathematics faculty and from 1997 to 2004 he headed the School of Physical Sciences and Engineering . Then he was Assistant Principal of the KCL.
In 1988/89 he was a member of the Institute for Advanced Study and in 1993 at IHES . In 1994 he was invited speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Zurich ( Smooth representations of p-adic groups: the role of compact open subgroups ).
He deals with the representation theory of reductive p-adic groups and the local Langlands correspondence .
In 1995 he received the Senior Whitehead Award . He is a fellow of the American Mathematical Society .
Graham Everest is one of his PhD students .
