Colonel Meow

Colonel Meow (* 2011 in Seattle , Washington ; † January 29, 2014 in Los Angeles , California ) was a domestic cat that became an internet phenomenon because of its appearance . She held the Guinness Book Record for a cat's longest fur.

Life

Colonel Meow was a mix of a Himalayan and a Persian cat . She was found in Seattle in 2011 and adopted on October 11, 2011 by the couple Anne Marie Avey and Eric Rosario from a Petco shelter. Their noticeably long fur and the grim looking look prompted the couple to name them. The couple began posting photos of the hangover on Instagram , which quickly spread and were shared with various memes. Avey and Rosario then hosted a Facebook page that had over 353,000 followers (as of late January 2014). They also marketed various merchandise items.

In 2013 they applied for Colonel Meeow to be included in the Guinness Book of Records. The Guinness Book declared him the cat with the longest fur. Individual hairs were up to 23 centimeters long and his fur had to be combed three to four times a week. The cat was later named CEO of BuzzFeed .

In November 2013, Anne Marie Avery announced that Colonel Meow was in poor health, had heart problems and was dependent on blood transfusions . On January 30, she announced his death. The cat was only two years old.
