Colonia Liebig , also Colonia Liebig's , is a place in the province of Corrientes in the Ituzaingó department in northeastern Argentina .
Today's Colonia Liebig, also Colonia Baron von Liebig , was founded under the name Neu Karlsruhe in 1924 by the Liebig Society as a cooperative settlement. The settlement was laid out in the undulating grasslands of Kampland. The area is said to have previously been known as Curuzú (word from the Guaraní ). In contrast to the previous division of settlements in Argentina, no square lots were created in Neu Karlsruhe . The first settlers in Neu Karlsruhe were 165 German immigrants in 1924. These are said to have been of Baden origin and their number later increased to over 300 people from 60 immigrant families. For a long time the settlement project was not successful despite the immense funding. The financial collapse of the settlement cooperative before the immigrants arrived in South America also played a role. In the city center there are church, school, administration, restaurants and shops. In the surrounding area there are yerba mate , citrus and tung plantations. (As of the beginning of the 1960s)
