Damián Álvarez (born May 21, 1979 in Morón ) is a native Argentinian and naturalized Mexican football player who mainly acts in midfield .

Life

Álvarez began his professional career in 1998 with the Argentine top club CA River Plate and played briefly for the Italian Serie A club AC Reggiana in early 2002 before coming to Mexico in early 2003, where he finally became naturalized.

After three years in the service of Monarcas Morelia , he moved to CF Pachuca in summer 2006 , with whom he won the Clausura championship title in 2007 and four international titles; including three successes in the CONCACAF Champions League , to which he was able to contribute some immensely important goals: Among other things, he scored in the final of the CONCACAF Champions' Cup 2007 against Mexican league rivals Chivas Guadalajara , which could only be won 7-6 on penalties , the goal to 4: 4, without which the penalty shoot-out would have been lost, and in the final of the CONCACAF Champions League 2009/10 in the second leg at Cruz Azul the all-important 1: 2, which was the decisive away goal to win the title.

Before the 2010/11 season , Álvarez moved to the Tigres de la UANL , with whom he won another championship title in the 2011 Apertura .

Anecdotes

One of his closest friends is his Argentinian compatriot Christián Giménez , with whom he played for Pachuca. Because Álvarez not only played for River, but is also an ardent fan of the club and Giménez is an ex-player and fan of the Boca Juniors , they enjoyed watching the Superclásico on Mexican television together .
