Comatose Vigil AK is a funeral doom band founded in 2017 .

history

Comatose Vigil AK was founded in 2017 by Andrey "iEzor" Karpukhin. The band was initiated as a follow-up project to Comatose Vigil after a dispute arose between Karpukhin and Alexander "ViG'iLL" Orlov regarding the use of the name of the group Comatose Vigil, which was dissolved in 2016. During the preparation, Karpukhin exchanged ideas with musician friends about the plans to continue or redesign the band project. As a result, the American drummer John Devos from Dalla Nebbia and Mesmur , as well as the Georgian bassist, keyboardist and guitarist David "Unsave" from Ennui agreed to join the project. “Unsave” also took on the role of songwriter . Despite the addition of 'AK' to the name, which refers to Karpuk, he negated the impression that the group should be a solo project with guest musicians changing in the future and rated Comatose Vigil AK as a full-fledged band.

The group debuted in 2018 with an EP named Comatose Vigil , as well as the album Evangelium Nihil . Both releases came out through Non Serviam Records . The album in particular received international attention and was largely positively discussed. Occasionally, however, the album was conceived as disoriented and badly mixed with negative ratings.

style

The music of Comatose Vigil AK is assigned to Funeral Doom. For the Doom-Metal.com website, the game form presented by the group is described as "dissonant" and "nebulous" as well as a "keyboard-heavy" variant of the genre. As a comparison, particular reference is made to the previous project, Comatose Vigil.

The slow playing of guitars and drums is perceived as the basis of the album. The riffing is described by Kelsey Chapstick in a review for Revolver magazine as "atonal howl and trot", while the drumming is considered reduced. Against this background, according to Chapstick, atmospheric and gruesome synthesizer surfaces spread out, which set the music apart from that of other representatives of the genre. The guttural song presented by Karpukhin is judged to be similarly gruesome .
