Ennui is a funeral doom band founded in 2012 .

history

The Georgian project Ennui was founded in 2012 by David "Unsaved" and Serge Shengelia. The initial idea to found the band was influenced by the poetry of the Georgian poet Terenti Graneli . So "Unsaved" and Shengelia decided in May 2012 to record their debut Mze Ukunisa . The album was released in October of the same year on the Russian independent label Moscow Funeral League Records . The album received little international attention, but was well received in a review of the British webzine Doom-Metal.com and highlighted as a recommendation for genre fans. With The Last Way , a second studio album was released again via Moscow Funeral League Records the following year. According to its predecessor, The Last Way received little international attention, but was also highlighted positively. The duo contested 2014 with two split releases, the EP Immortal in Death with Aphonic Threnody and the album Escapism with Abstract Spirit . Both split releases were well received and for the first time reached a broader critical public.

Falsv's Anno Domini was released as the third album in November 2015 via the Russian label Solitude Productions . For this album, Ennui varied their sound to a music more likely to be assigned to Death Doom . "Unsaved" described Falsv's Anno Domini as an experimental heavy album, which was deliberately given a harder direction, so that it corresponds to the lyrical concept of anti-clerical themes. In addition to the varying musical orientation, the band acted for the first time with guest musicians, including Daniel Neagoe from Eye of Solitude as drummer, Greg Chandler from Esoteric as guest singer and Don Zaros from Evoken as keyboardist. The album received international attention and mostly received positive reviews. According to "Unsaved", the release made the band part of the international Doom Metal scene. Three years after Ennui's international breakthrough, End of the Circle was released in September 2018 via Non Serviam Records, the follow-up work to Falsv's Anno Domini . The album received a wide international reception and was widely discussed as a good to outstanding release in the genre.

style

The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes Ennui as a "cold and bleak funeral act". Clear guitar playing contrasts the otherwise "deep, rumbling, cavernous background and the distantly brooding growling ."
