Comgall

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Comgall (Comgall mac Domangart) (* before 507; † around 542) was the successor to his father Domangart mac Fergus as King of Dalriada .

Life

Comgall was a grandson of Fergus Mór mac Erc and the father of Conall mac Comgall . When his father died in 507, he took over his position until he abdicated in 538 in favor of his brother Gabhran mac Domangart . After his abdication, he is said to have gone to a monastery. Comgall died thirty-five years after taking power. An area south of Loch Fyne was named after his family Còmhghall . His brother Gabhran ruled after him for around twenty years and died in 558 during or after an attack by the Pict leader Bruide mac Maelchon.
