The Comité Internacional de Críticos de Arquitectura (CICA) was founded on October 26, 1978 during the 13th World Congress of the International Association of Architects ( UIA ) in Mexico City and is the international committee of architecture critics .

The seat of the non-profit organization was determined due to the proximity to the UIA in Paris . There was also the main residence of long-time chairman Pierre Vago . The “seat” of the secretariat was originally located in Buenos Aires because of Jorge Glusberg , but can be relocated worldwide by resolution depending on the main residence of the chairperson. The founding members included names such as Pierre Vago, Bruno Zevi , Max Blumenthal , Mildred Schmertz , Blake Huges , Jorge Glusberg, Louise Noëlle Gras de Mereles and Julius Posener .

CICA awards

The committee's prizes were originally called the CICA Award . Since 2003, the CICA prizes have been named with the names of the CICA founding members. The award of the CICA Book Awards as the first CICA prize was decided at the 14th UIA World Congress in 1981. There were CICA special prizes for China Architecture & Building Press (CABP) and Springer-Verlag for the series "World Architecture: A Critical Mosaic 1900-2000" .
