Posterior commissure
The posterior commissure (labeled above with "posterior commissure") is about to find in center, located in front of the quadrigemina (labeled "Corpora quadrigemina") and near the pineal gland ( "pineal body"), below the commissure habenularum . The pia mater is highlighted in red here.
The posterior commissure , also commissure epithalamic , in animal anatomy as commissure caudalis referred to is a Kommissurbahn of the brain in the region of the transition from the mid-brain for the midbrain and traverses the median plane in the posterior wall of III. Ventricle at the entrance to the mesencephalic aqueduct .
This cross connection, which is assigned to the epithalamus , plays a special role for the bilateral pupillary light reflex , as it connects the pretectal nuclei of both hemispheres. In addition, it leads fibers from the mesencephalic tegmentum and tectum connecting adjacent regions of the midbrain , especially from the upper mounds of the four-mound plate , which covers the aqueduct in close proximity.
The imaginary straight connection between commissura anterior and commissura posterior represents a basic reference line for spatial references of the brain. This Ca-Cp-line is determined , for example, radiologically as an orientation aid for stereotactic brain operations to determine the individual coordinates . The length of the path in the adult human brain varies only slightly, averaging around 25 mm.
