The Compton Creek is a major tributary of the Los Angeles River . It has a length of 14 km and drains 109 km² of land. Its source is on South Main Street between 107th and 108th Streets in Los Angeles . Then it flows through the western Watts , Willowbrook , Compton , Rancho Dominguez and Carson . In the north of Long Beach the river finally flows into the Los Angeles River, which shortly after flows into the Pacific . Most of the time it flows in a concrete canal. Only 3.3% of the river is not built on. There are parks and agricultural areas at these locations. The Compton Creek is very dirty. It is contaminated with copper , lead and coli bacteria .
