The Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge a is a National Wildlife Refuge on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Range at the foot of 12,281 ft (3,743 m) high Mount Adams in southern Washington State . The closest location is Trout Lake (Washington) .

It comprises 7,071.70 acres (2,862 hectares) of the land of the historic Conboy and Camas Lakes, a shallow marshland and wetland that was drained by the first white settlers.

Flora and fauna

Coniferous forests , grasslands , shallow wetlands and deep waters provide a habitat for raccoons , deer , spruce martens , Rocky Mountain elk , coyotes , muskrats , striped scots , pumas , beavers , Ursons , otters , small rodents and 150 species of birds as well as numerous amphibians and reptiles and fish.

Bald eagles , sandhill crane, and Oregon patch frog ( Rana pretiosa ) are species on the alert list that can be found in the reserve. Visitors to the sanctuary can enjoy the scenery, hike the Willard Springs Trail, and observe animals and plants from the country lanes that traverse and circling the area.

In any Frühejahr to juvenile sandhill cranes, called Foal ( English colts ), near the headquarters of the protected area and the nearby streets are observed. The very young birds are difficult to see because the adults try to hide their offspring from predators. Visitors are encouraged to make the observations from a distance and in a way that does not endanger the survival of the birds.
