Conesa is a place with about 2,000 inhabitants in the east of Argentina . It is located in the Partido San Nicolás in the province of Buenos Aires .

history

Named after the general Emilo Conesa , the place was founded in 1884 at the same time as the inauguration of the railway line between San Nicolás de los Arroyos and Pergamino . This was soon joined by the Ferrocarril General Manuel Belgrano route between Buenos Aires and Rosario , so that the place soon became an important traffic junction.

After the last railway line was closed in the 1990s, the town experienced a crisis that caused the population to decline.

Economy and Infrastructure

The largest employer is the Cooperativa Agrícola Conesa , which operates agriculture and agro-industry in the area.

The most important traffic axis today is the Ruta Nacional 188 , which connects San Nicolás with San Rafael in the province of Mendoza.

At the beginning of 2008 it was announced that Conesa would be the only stopping point for the Cobra high-speed train between Buenos Aires and Rosario, as it is the only major location directly on the route, which is largely identical to the Ferrocarril Belgrano, and is also strategically located between the two major cities of Pergamino and San Nicolás that are 42 and 37 kilometers away and have good transport links.
