The Congress Centrum Bremen (CCB) in Bremen - Findorff is located on the Bürgerweide , north of Bremen main station . The congress center is one of the most important buildings in Bremen .

history

The Bürgerweide is an event space in Bremen where u. a. the Bremer Freimarkt takes place every year . As early as 1964, the dominant city hall in Bremen , designed by Roland Rainer , was inaugurated. In the 1970s it was generally planned to build a congress center on the Bürgerweide. An architecture competition only followed in 1985. The first prize winner proposed the location of the building west of the town hall. Due to the expansion of the spatial program and increased design requirements of the building senatorial department, the budget had to be revised upwards several times in the course of the planning and construction process. The second award winner received the planning order.

building

The Congress Center of the City of Bremen was built from 1990 to 1992 according to plans by the architect Thomas Klumpp . He describes the plans as follows: “In terms of design, the Congress Center should have its own identifiable form as a characteristic special center in the competition between competitors, but on the other hand it should not have to contest a design competition with the dominant town hall building by Roland Rainer , which dominates the Bürgerweide . Compared to the concrete construction of the city hall, however, the different value of the conference use should definitely show. "

The technical, glazed building cube is emphasized by a canopy extending far from the front. The structure standing on pillars and the staircase mark the entrance. In the partly postmodern interior, the event rooms and the technical installations look like they have been placed in the large cube; in between the strolling areas, i.e. the foyers on the ground floor and first floor with around 2000 m² of space. The Hanse Hall with gallery is 1470 m² in size and can accommodate up to 1600 people. The Kaisen Hall (428 m²), the Borgward Hall (375 m²), the Focke-Wulf Hall (252 m²), the Lloyd Hall (200 m²) and a further eleven salons / group rooms are also available. Exhibition halls 2 and 3 with an area of 2000 and 1750 m² are located under the Congress Center.

In the area of the Congress Center, the M3B GmbH exhibition center and a multi-storey car park were built to the west . In the north in the direction of the Bürgerpark , the Maritim Hotel was built as a congress and trade fair hotel .
