Connemara (whiskey)
Connemara is a strong peat-tasting single malt whiskey from Cooley Distillery , County Louth , Ireland , named after the remote region of Connemara . However, this is located around 250 km west of Louth in County Galway .
Unlike other Irish whiskey is the malted barley over a while Connemara as with some Scotch whiskey peat fire kiln-dried . The malt takes on a smoky and spicy note over the peat fire. In addition, this whiskey - in contrast to traditional Irish whiskey, but just like most Scottish whiskeys - is not distilled three times, but only twice . Cooley uses special stills with a slimmer body and longer neck. Only malt made from Irish barley is used for the Connemara whiskey . The sand-filtered water comes from a reservoir in the Cooley Mountains .
